Sophia Wilson was born on unceded Anaiwan land in Australia and is currently based in rural Aotearoa New Zealand with her partner and three daughters.

She is the recipient of awards for poetry including the Hippocrates Prize, the Robert Burns Poetry Competition and the Caselberg Trust International Poetry Prize.

Sophia hosts the New Zealand Society of Authors Southland Branch writer’s salon and is a member of the Octagon Poetry Collective.

She was runner up in the 2020 Kathleen Grattan prize for a sequence of poems. In 2022 her manuscript En Cas D’Urgence was joint-winner of the inaugural Flying Islands Poetry Prize, subsequently published by flying island books / Cerberus Press as Sea Skins.
